Facebook yesterday announced the launch of it’s “internet for all” initiative – Internet.org – in Ghana, in collaboration with Airtel Ghana.
The whole concept of Internet.org is to help make basic internet services free and accessible to all. By striking deals with local telcos, Facebook is able to make this a reality at the very basic level.
Starting today, the Internet.org app will be available for free download to Airtel customers in Ghana. The app, which is available for both feature and smartphones, will give users all-out free access to education, health, jobs and communication resources, as long as they are on the Airtel network.
Ghana is the fifth country Facebook has connected through Internet.org, after Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Colombia.
