N6.9 billion to be spent on presidential fleet, Aso Villa zoo, others

President Buhari presented the 2016 budget to the senate amid loud cheers from different quarters.

The cheers have began to simmer as inside details of the budget came to fore and it became apparent that there were seemingly outrageous figures included for various reasons.

One of such figures is the presidency’s plan to spend about N6.94 billion on C-Caution triangles for cars, fire extinguishers, recreational facilities, fuel and lubricants, wildlife park and also for the maintenance of the presidential fleet.

The details of the proposed spending are outlined in the 2016 budget submitted to the senate.

The budget revealed that N3.27 billion is proposed for purchase of furniture, electricity, wildlife conservation, fuel and kitchen equipment while N3.65 billion is to go into the maintenance of the presidential fleet of the state house alone.

The sum of N326.08 million would be spent on wildlife conservation.

The guest house at Aso Rock is also up for renovation and will be gulping N387.98 million with an additional N45 million budgeted for “complete furnishing of the entire guest house.”

N764.67 million would be spent on “construction and provision of recreational facilities” and N322.4 million for linking of cable for the driver’s restroom at the State House.

N618.6 million would be used to install electrical lighting and fittings, N213.87 million to link cable from the generator house of the guest house to the gate while a bulletproof ambulance and operational vehicles would gulp N189.17 million.

Also, the upgrade of Internet infrastructure would take N111.4 million, fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles and generators, N90.49 million, purchase of canteen/kitchen equipment, N89.17 million, C-Caution triangles, fire extinguishers and towing ropes of booster cable, N27 million and welfare packages N107.25 million.

The presidential air fleet of the state house is allocated N3.65 billion, capital expenditure, N376.78 million while N3.275bn would be spent for recurrent items.

Similarly, purchase of fire fighting equipment for the presidential air fleet is to cost N7.9m; purchase of navigational instrument, N262.4m; medical expenses, N7.4m; and loss of foreign exchange, N8.7m.

N28.7 million is to go into buying motor vehicles, N20.26 million to purchase of gaming equipment, security equipment, N15.4m, industrial equipment, N3.7m while provision of fire fighting station would take N9.43 million.
