Federal University Lafia sacks 35 staff over scarcity of funds

The appointment of 35 non-teaching staff of the Federal University, Lafia, has been terminated by the institution over its inability to pay their salaries.

This development was made known on Sunday in Lafia by Mohammed Sanusi-Liman, Vice Chancellor of the university, who said the institution took the decision due to paucity of funds.

According to Sanusi-Liman the affected staff, include 11 corps members who were retained after their service year and 24 others.

He said the institution had mandated its management to secure funds to pay off those affected since they had worked for over five months without being paid.

“It would be inhuman to keep the staff working when we cannot pay them giving our poor budget and that is why the council decided that we should pay them off,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor said for several months the university had experienced a shortfall of over N38 million in its allocation which had adversely affected the running of the institution.
