Ekiti State workers will now get their salary as the state government has revealed that it will use the N1.3bn loan it got from the Federal Government to pay salary arrears.

This was revealed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Lanre Ogunwusi in an interview with The Punch.

Ogunsuyi said, “We are going to use the ‘Budget Adjustment Support facility’ to pay backlog of workers salaries. That is what it will be mainly used for. It is even not enough to clear the arrears. The workers will be paid this week because that is topmost on our priority for now.”

The state president of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Bunmi Ajimoko, while commending the Federal Government for the initiative, advised the state government not to divert the money for other use.

“We will wait and see. We hope the state government will use it for what is intended because workers are passing through a difficult time,” he said.
