We have freed over 2 million civilians from Boko Haram – Army

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said since the beginning of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, it has rescued over two million persons held captive by dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Civil Military Relations, Maj. Gen. Peter Bojie, stated this in Abuja during a conference on UN World Peace Day.

He said the achievement was made possible due to support from the Federal Government.

Buratai said the army was able to recapture territories from the terrorists because of the clear directives of President Buhari.

He said, “Today, the story has changed, as the tide has turned against the insurgents. The Nigerian Army, in synergy with other sister services and security agencies had liberated captured territories and rescued over 40,000 civilians, arrested many suspects, while over two million women, children, including adult males held captives have been freed from the hands of the terrorist group following a series of coordinated attacks and clearance operations conducted against Boko Haram terrorist camps.”
