The countdown to the premiere of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show; Big Brother Naija is almost off. The show this year promises to be peculiar, not only as a result of the pandemic situation we find ourselves in, but also because of the enthralling twists and turns the producers of the show have promised to deliver.
It’s difficult to truly predict the eccentricities this season has in store for us, however there are a few changes that are certain. For starters, this year’s season is themed ‘Ace of Games’ and if the moniker and trailer is anything to go by, we can expect a lot of drama, owing to the promise that this season may allow housemates the freedom to be as deceptive and clever as possible.
The prize this year is not something we can ignore either. The winner will be carting away a cash prize combined with other incentives, amounting to a whooping N85 million. This includes a N30 million cash prize, an SUV from Innoson Motors, a two bedroom apartment courtesy Revolution Plus, a trip to Dublin, courtesy Guinness and other gifts.
But perhaps the biggest reason, why this year’s show might be unique is because of the health protocols put in place. Social distancing is a primary concern for the producers, so much so that even the auditions were held online.
The producers claim that strict health protocols have been put in place including, mandatory testing, and a two-week quarantine before the start of the show. No audience will be in attendance during the live eviction shows until further notice, no visits to the house, and no ninjas. However, we are not sure if these guidelines will also affect the number of contestants this season will house.
Nevertheless, we will be bringing a recap of all the developments in the house on YNaija.com/RealityTV once the season begins. The show kicks off on Sunday, the 19th of July and will be airing live on DStv channel 198 or GOtv channel 29.
