Gunmen kidnap 14 oil workers in Rivers state

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped fourteen workers of an oil firm known as Nestoil Plc, The Punch reports.

The oil workers were abducted on Friday on their way back to their office in Port Harcourt from a technical job they had gone for in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The gunmen laid an ambush and hijacked the bus conveying the workers along Omoku-Elele Road at about 12.20pm.

According to sources the hoodlums ordered the driver of the vehicle to drive to an unidentified place, from which the workers were taken into the bush.

“The oil workers had gone to work somewhere in Obrikom, Omoku and they were on their way back to Port Harcourt when they were intercepted by unknown gunmen.

“We learnt that the workers were more than 14 and they were all taken into the bush at gunpoint,” the source said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Onomi, confirmed the incident, but quickly added that he did not have the details.
