Some of us remember the days when Nigeria’s Independence anniversary celebrations felt like Christmas, New Years and Easter all rolled into one — the flag-waving school children, the competitive march-pasts, the fanfare, the joy of nationhood, and the unwavering hopes for a greater future.
All these collectively shared emotions have over the years been gradually eroded and replaced with cautious optimism, and in some instances, resignation.
Nigeria’s 52nd Independence Anniversary brings about a new opportunity to take stock of our chequered journey so far and chart a new course for us and generations to come – the uber Y! Generation.
As we set our gaze to the future, we must singularly and collectively identify and define the Nigerian dream, and be prepared to undertake the noble sacrifice it may take to achieve it.
Today, as we take another step in this journey of nationhood, YNaija, your favourite online newspaper, wishes you a Happy 52nd Independence Anniversary.
God bless Nigeria!
