Health workers suspend nationwide strike

The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike.

This was after a meeting between the leadership of the union and representatives of the Federal Government in Abuja.

What happened:

  • The union had embarked on strike to protest salaries adjustments, promotion arrears, and improved work environment for its members.
  • Minister of employment, Chris Ngige had also chastised the workers, stating that the Federal Government should not be blamed for the strike action.

What is happening:

Biobelemoye Josiah, chairman of the union, has directed members to resume work on Wednesday, saying the strike was suspended “in principle”.

Josiah said another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, explaining that the agreements reached on Saturday would be ratified next week.
