Yesterday, Banky W’s Instagram was buzzing about the Tope Oshin’s new film Up North, which is currently being filmed. An inside source spotted the director and the crew on the Lekki/Ikoyi bridge, all wearing t-shirts with the Up North inscription. Days before that, Banky W posted a flurry of picturesque scenes from a Benue trip, depicting wildlife and a lovely sunset. Furthermore, he branded the post with the #UpNorth hashtag.
After watching the R&B singer’s Instagram Story many times, in which he captures himself on the movie set goofing around, it’s safe to say that Banky W is the first publicly known cast member in Tope Oshin’s current project, a core role I’m predicting, making it his second feature in Nollywood after 2016’s The Wedding Party.
Banky turned out be a surprise heart throb after his stint on the Wedding Party, his online relationship with Adesua spilling out into an offline romance and marriage that helped the film’s sequel score major numbers at the Nigerian box office. Oshin might want to mllk this attention that Banky W wields as one half of Nigeria’s sweetheart couple before it fully wanes.
Set location will shuttle between Lagos and Benue probably. Lately, Oshin has been engaged in both the film and TV circuits. As one of the directors on MTV Shuga Naija, the show’s sixth season recently wrapped up and her young-adult queer film We Don’t Live Here Anymore is headed for cinemas. Up North has the involvement of Anakle, a digital agency founded by techpreneur Editi Effiong. This will be Anakle’s first venture into making a feature film, and some of their previous works are the creation of The Bride Price app that went viral in 2014, and the Wikipedia ad with child comic Emmanuella.
Produced by Inkblot Productions, we’ll keep you updated as Up North takes shape.
