Two words came to my mind while watching the trailer for The Chairman: lukewarm and unfunny. Purportedly, the upcoming tv series is fleshed in the mould of comedy, but how come nothing in the one-minute-plus trailer convincingly conveyed humour?
Per the synopsis, The Chairman tells the story of a rich and uneducated man who buys a newspaper company, hoping to use it to facilitate his political interest. Unfortunately, he ends up with a dying business that causes trouble on a daily basis than it makes profit.
I was a little surprised to discover that the director of the series is Imoh Umoren, whose slightly tepid heist thriller Club is currently showing in cinemas. Created and produced by Bola Oba, The Chairman stars award-winning actress Fathia Williams, Muyiwa Adegoke and Etinosa Idemudia. Check out the trailer below.
