Here’s where you can watch Ruth Nkweti’s upcoming sitcom “Hook Line & Sinker”

Ruth Nkwenti

For those who don’t know Ruth Nkweti, she is an award-winning Cameroonian actress, producer and writer who has managed to infiltrate the Nigerian film space. Although she doesn’t have a weighty catalogue, she did a feature film in 2011 called Obsession produced by Binam Studios, which got three nominations at the Ecranes Noires film festival the following year.

Last year, Nkweti starred in Beach of Trust, a movie produced by UK-based Cameroonian filmmaker Roseline Fonka and directed by Nelson Spyk and Nkanya Nkwai. Beach of Trust, which tackles the issue of rape, is one of the visible projects where Nkweti features alongside Cameroonian and Nollywood actors, like Walter Anga.

Ruth Nkweti also starred in Banjo Oyemaja’s alien invasion saga Sector Zero, one of the few surprises from Nollywood this year. With her forthcoming series Hook Line & Sinker, it allows for Nkweti to exercise her producer chops. Directed by Aniedi Awah Noba, Hook Line & Sinker ensembles a cast of Shirley Igwe, Somadina Adinma, Ray Emodi, Scarlet Gomez, Maureen Okpoko and Ayo Adesanya.

Nkweti will star as Tricia, a fresh graduate of History and International Relations who has just rounded off her NYSC programme and is now job hunting. Adinma is Kenneth, a gigolo who likes older women. Igwe is cast as Vanessa, a victim of several heartbreaks who is determined to either remain single forever or get it right.

All these characters and more will cross paths, their lives intertwined against the backdrop of a modern, bustling Lagos. Catch Hook Line & Sinker on Africa Magic soon.
