Horror in Enugu: Couple killed on eve of wedding-day

A couple, who were set to get married on Saturday, 6 September were reportedly shot dead by gunmen on Friday, 5 September, barely 24 hours before they were to be joined in holy matrimony.

The unidentified pair were killed alongside three others at a gas station around the Trans-Ekulu on the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway, on Friday night.

The gunmen, who are suspected to be cult members, reportedly followed the couple to the filling station where they stopped to buy fuel. Once the arrived at the gas station, the gunmen shot sporadically at the bride and groom who were in the car.

The manager of the gas station, a pump attendant and another person buying fuel at the time were also shot at by the gunmen.

The five of them reportedly died on the spot, after which the attackers fled into their waiting vehicle.

Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, Enugu State Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.

He said, “There was an incident that led to the death of some people following sporadic shooting by suspected hoodlums before the arrival of security operatives and we have put measures on ground to unmask them.”
