The Federal House of Representatives, has truly gone to hell… and maybe back.

Earlier today, June 25, the House of Representatives was tension soaked as federal lawmakers threw caution to the wind, in the yearn for the actualisation of their personal objectives.

Unable to agree on the sharing formula of the principal positions of the House, the agitated lawmakers exchanged blows in the green chamber of the National Assembly.

The Mace, which is the symbol of authority of the House, also went missing while the lawmakers continued fighting each other.

It was later discovered that the Mace had been taken to to the inner office of the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, for safekeeping, when some lawmakers attempted to seize it.

The crisis in the House of Representatives started on June 9, after the controversial inauguration of the National Assembly.

Senator Bukola Saraki and Dogara, had gone against the ruling party, APC, to get elected as Senate President and Speaker, respectively.

The party’s preferred candidates were; Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila.

While the dust around that disagreement was yet to settle, more confusion sprang up when it was time to nominate candidates for the leadership positions of the National Assembly.

The lawmakers became even more divided as some supported the candidates nominated by the APC while others insisted that they will choose their own candidates independent of the party.

The House was thrown into commotion as pro-APC lawmakers kicked against the election of principal officers by the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara.

After the rowdy market-like session, plenary was reconvened by Dogara, who urged members to count themselves lucky to be chosen to represent their constituency.

The Speaker would subsequently adjourn the House till July 21 while vowing that the crisis that rocked the House will be resolved.
