Radio Biafra: The President must do something

Not everyone can remember what it was then but some of our grannies and great grannies would remember the feeling of war but even for those who remember, the mention of Biafra gives them nightmares.

In recent times, there has been a quiet resurgence of the Biafran movement and Radio Biafra has been at the forefront. Radio Biafra, which started as an internet station, now has a bandwidth that airs from an undisclosed location.

The station, which is said to be dedicated to the defense of rights of the indigenous people of Biafra and ultimately the actualization of the Republic of Biafra, now has its footing in most of South-South and South-East. The station is growing in listenership, so much so that a sister radio station (RBL World) has been set up to take care of what they refer to as their “expanded focus in aggressive media activism/campaign bringing all cultures of the world to Biafra”.

Radio Biafra is blatant in inciting open confrontation with the government and this will definitely lead to something nasty. The station airs nothing but tirades against the current government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Raw undiluted hate and bigotry targeted mostly at the Yorubas, religious bodies owned by Yoruba people, and the North. The station openly calls for the destruction of these groups.

The presenter, Nnamdi Kanu, referred to as ‘director’, fancies himself as the leader of the cause. With no restraint whatsoever, he frequently refers to President Muhammadu Buhari as a “terrorist” and “pedophile”. It wouldn’t be wrong to say this is another homegrown terrorist group in the making. With this hate brewing in the east under the aegis of Biafra, something must be done to nip it in the bud.

The dreaded insurgent group Boko Haram started on the same path, igniting their so followers against the government, western education and all. That cancer has grown so big that it is becoming almost impossible for the country to rid itself of it, with so many innocent lives lost in the process of combating it.

The President has to address this.

  1. Enter your comment here…to be united as one entity is not by force. If other nations like vatican, sudan etc can seperate then why is biafra a difficult issue. Must unity be by force?

  2. The Nigerian government has never been able to clamp down on any self-determination group. OPC, MASSOB, Boko Haram, NDVPF, etc. It takes effective intelligence gathering, sincerity and political will, which no government in Nigeria has been able to muster (because ALL have been terribly corrupt). Asking for a clamp down on Radio Biafra is futile. Very futile. It will become what it will become, unless Nigerians learn how to engage in open conversation, respect one another and stop the pretense that everybody else is a tribal bigot except your holy self.

I condemn hate speech, from anyone, anywhere. I also condemn the hypocrite who responds to hate speech with hate speech and condescension.

Let us all discuss the seed of these hate speeches (which sprouts from all corners of Nigeria from time to time) in an atmosphere such as an ideal Sovereign National Conference could promote. One fact that should get us all (as Nigerians) to look in the mirror is the shameful conduct of all our elected persons…(is there really an exception to this?)

  3. The Government of the day will never accept anything of such nature. Surely their days are numbered as soon as the President settle down. Please if you have any of your family friends who belongs to this cowards, sentimental and enemy of the nation, Kindly inform THEM that the Government of Nigeria (PMB) will not allow that.

  4. There is no entity called Nigeria, .It is Luggard’s baby and the time for us to find our ways. The marriage presided over by Lord Luggard was never consumeted. More over the amalgam was over by December 2014. We the Biafrans have had enough we need our freedom and our space,

  5. if Biafrans wants to go let them more over west and north can form a country

  6. sorz u pip biafra most com in j n

  7. Enter your comment here…de best thing is for de ibos to have their own country becos de marginalization and hatred against de ibos is too much. when de oba of Lagos said ibos should be thrown into de sea if they did not vote APC nobody saw anything bad about it now de ibos are angry everybody are now calling on Mr president to do something.

  8. Those who are secretly broadcating hate and succession should do a rethink what their parents or grand parents went through during d civil war. The igbos are doing well all over the nation and they are open minded to live and develop where ever they are. For the sake of peace unity and love for your people, pls stop hate broadcast and don’t put the peace loving igbo people through another genocide experience. Many own multi million naira busineses in Lagos and northern Nigeria, where do u want them to go?

  9. My initial response was to call on the FG and the security agencies to move in swiftly and nip this in the bud, but when I remember that the Prez inherited a military and security services that worked so very hard against his emergence and he, the Prez has left them in their posts for this long, I became afraid that this issue may get out of hand. Unfortunately, Nigeria will not be able to survive another tribal insurgency coming on the heels of BH which has not been conquered. Nigeria is on the brink!

  10. It is quite clear to all diserning minds that there is no collective will for the good of the common man by those who preach violence and division but selfish interest. Do not look far. Just turn and look at our so called reps at Abuja and cover your face with your hands. Radio Biafra is also not for the good of the ordinary lbo man whose main concern is the development of his business.

  11. While l think it is necessary for the government to act quickly and decively, l also think that we the northerners should retrain our utterances in responding to the attack made by mindless instigators of chaos.

  12. The Igbos themselves should call their brothers to order, unless they want few miscreants funded by aggrieved politicians and militants to lead them to the path of destruction. Buhari pedophile indeed! Ojukwu was the number one pedophile followed by Jim Nwabodo, Iwanyanyu, Aninneh and their likes.
It is worthy to not that terrorists activities started from the south east and south-south, likewise the first bomb blast in the country was detonated in Abuja by south-south! We happen to know alot about the Igbos as well and we dont have to operate a secret radio to air whatever we have to say. We will expose all on the net for the world to know! So many of your leaders both old and young fathered bastard children! We reserve our comments about the activities of the Igbos that made it almost impossible to get visa to go to decent countries! If not because Lord Lugard brought us together, who wants to live with Igbos anyway?
So because Jonathan was kicked out we should all perish, right?

    1. I am Igbo and I condemn the hate coming from this radio station. But it is quite unfortunate that you use hate speech while trying to condemn hate speech.
You are full of hate and you are just as guilty as the guys at Radio biafra.
It is ironic that most of you who condemn these guys were silent (and some even sympathetic) when boko haram started the insurgency in the north.
Igbos are generally tolerant and people from all parts of Nigeria are SAFE in Igbo land.
I wish I could say the same about the NORTH. Historically, Northern Nigeria has been intolerant and this intolerance has snowballed into the Boko Haram insurgency we are grappling with today.
HATRED AND INTOLERANCE remains Nigeria’s greatest challenge today.
