House of Reps session turns rowdy over discussion on fuel subsidy

Members of the House of Representative, on Monday, held a special session to deliberate on the fuel subsidy removed by the federal government last week.

However, the session turned rowdy with lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejecting the presentation by the Minister of state for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, was said to have overruled the objections of PDP members to admit the Minister into the chamber.

This overruling turned into a shouting march as the PDP members carried national flags, shouting “No!” and “All we are saying, save Nigeria” to register their pleasure at the speaker’s action.

The lawmakers were said to have protested their displeasure for more than 10 minutes.

The rowdiness took a different dimension when some members of the All Progressive Congress attempted to call their colleagues to order.

The lawmakers settled down after about 15 minutes.
