While I have personally bemoaned the great churn of sequels and spinoffs in Hollywood, there’s something appealing about seeing Idris Elba in a devilishly reckless car porn franchise like Fast and Furious.
Multiple reports confirm that Idris Elba will play the villain in the upcoming Fast and Furious spinoff centered on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham, who both form an alliance. Per Deadline, Elba will square off against characters Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, played by Johnson and Statham respectively, the latter who is reprising his role. A lot of testosterone going on here, if you ask me.
Not that I’m complaining. Titled Hobbs and Shaw (like, why not?!), the movie will be directed by Deadpool 2 director David Leitch. So far, there isn’t much on plot details other than the fact Elba will play a big bad villain. Interestingly, and if you remember, the talk about the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff film largely contributed to the beef between cast members Johnson and Tyrese Gibson in late 2017. We at YNaija are just glad we finally get to see mainstream film with two leads who are people of colour. More of this please.
I promised we were going to make this Fast & Furious spin off awesome and grow our franchise properly. He’s a bad man (legit bad ass). I better toughen up ?? #HobbsAndShaw https://t.co/oERduIlTwz

Gibson, who plays Roman Pearce in the older installments, previously announced that he wouldn’t want to be in a ninth feature film if Johnson was in it. The movie is set to be released July 26, 2019, which happens to be Statham’s 52nd birthday.
