Ilesa prepares to re-elect her son

Our survey in Ilesa on Friday indicates that residents are enthusiastic about voting in this election, and the sitting governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has overwhelming support in the town. Ilesa is Aregbesola’s hometown.

Biola Aderinade, an employee at one petrol station says, “Aregbesola is the most popular candidate here, and that is not to do with the fact that this is his home town. He has fixed a lot of bad roads in our town, and he has also built a number of ‘standard’ schools. I will be voting for him. I will be surprised if he does not win at the end of the day.”

Mutairu Abdulrasaq is at the Ilesa Central Mosque for the afternoon prayer. He says, “Aregbesola is the best governor we’ve ever had. Before Aregbesola, there was a breakdown of security in Ilesa. Robbers usually attacked banks, sometimes twice a week. If you stood here for some time, someone would likely snatch your bag. But now security is a lot better. Even if heaven falls, I will be voting for Aregbesola.”

Ajoke Akomalafe, a shop owner, says, “I will vote for Aregbesola because he is a kind man and is a man of the people. Our schoolchildren get free food in school. Aregbesola reduced school fees at the tertiary institutions so that we parents can afford to pay for our children’s education. This took off some burden. We are going to turn up at the polls and vote for our man, Aregbesola.”
