[The Injustice Blog] What is the worth of a Nigerian life?

There is nothing new in Nigeria because things happen in cycles.

Things deemed abnormal in saner climes are accepted as the norm here.

The average Nigerian is a government on his own. He is his security guard, provides his own power, water and healthcare. Long story short, there’s no government in Nigeria.

To worsen matters the non-existent government has proven to be one of the main killers of the citizens.

Ayo Sogunro authored a book “Everything in Nigeria will kill you” and nothing captures our reality better than that title.

Bad air, bad healthcare, bad roads and everything in between will kill you.

Injustice, human right abuse and other anti-human behaviours are the order of the day.

When they happen, Nigerians are usually advised to move on and act as if it never happens. As a result injustice continues and thrives.

On Sunday, some gunmen stormed a Catholic Church in Anambra State killing innocent worshippers and injuring many. The country went into a frenzy and condemnation messages trooped in from the Presidency to Governors and also from others who see it an opportunity to score political points.

This incidence will repeat itself because people are hardly ever punished for crimes in Nigeria.

Hundreds of Shi’ites were killed by the military in December 2015 and nothing has happened to the perpetrators of this heinous crimes yet.

Some members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were said to have been killed by security agencies during pro-secession protests.

On Tuesday protesters calling for the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from the United Kingdom were teargassed while observing their daily sit-out at the Unity Fountain in Abuja injuring a protester in the process.

The way these protesters were hounded is similar to how the BBOG campaigners were harassed countless times at the same location while demanding for the return of the Chibok girls.

The consistent action of the Nigerian government in using force against protesters and other individuals calling their attention to any development is anti-people and a shame to humanity.

The action of the police on the protesters is a clear indication of the worth of the life of every Nigerian in the face of the powers that be.

Beyond the action of the security agencies, the Nigerian state is configured to kill you.
