There have been several differing reactions to the Minister of Information’s statement yesterday about President Buhari working from home. We spoke to YNaija Insiders and they also share their opinion on the issue.
An Insider with the APC said: “Interesting information from the presidency. A clear departure from the past where information like these are kept in secret. However, it is left to Nigerians to decide how to react to it, but judging by the docility of Nigerians so far, they won’t protest on issues like this, neither would they force the Senate or House to investigate the health of our president if he is really capable of governing and if he can cope with the rigors of the office.”
Another Insider opined that, “It feeds the speculation that the President is still unwell and receiving treatment at home, especially when you look at the fact that he does not make public appearances anymore”.
An Insider with the PDP in his opinion stated: “Our constitution did not provide for a Residential President. This ridiculous power game must stop and we must prevail on the cabals to free the President and allow him to seek a proper medical attention and a well deserved rest. If anything untoward happens to our President this time, we must ensure all those involved are diligently prosecuted. The Yar’ Adua saga must never repeat itself when people trampled on our collective sense without consequences”.
There is no doubting the fact that the President is sick, there is actually nothing wrong with the leader of a country having health challenges, he is human, but again, this is Nigeria, and with us in this side of planet earth, everything is rooted in politics, even the health of our beloved President, call it the ubiquity of politics.
“Call it bad day for ‘work from home’ and remote working advocates. Lai Mohammed’s comment was a lazy attempt to skim over a serious issue. The President’s health is a material concern for every Nigerian who elected him and every Nigerian who he promised to serve and deliver on a robust (on paper, at least) electoral agenda. If he is unfit to work by reason of health or any other reason, he owes the Nigerian people an honest and detailed explanation. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, Mr Mohammed’s comments continue a timeworn and unintelligent pattern of excuses by the government which has had the opposite effect of what it intends-making Nigerians even more interested, and bound to develop conspiracy theories about the President’s health”, said another Insider.
An Insider with the PDP said that “Buhari’s election was an endorsement of his competence. I don’t understand these complaints. He can work from anywhere he chooses. The problem cannot be a man that was certified as competent even with NEPA Bill certificate”.
