The Joint Task Force (JTF) has arrested a man who is alleged to be the ‘master trainer’ of Boko Haram female suicide bombers, alongside 16 females who were reportedly being trained for suicide operations.
The suspect, Ibrahim Ibrahim was arrested in Dala Local Government Area of Kano during a raid by the Joint Task Force on Thursday, 7 August.
The females who were also arrested with him were reportedly undergoing a training session to carry out suicide bombings when they were raided by the JTF.
A security source told Daily Trust that the insurgents aim was to use the female suicide bombers for their activities in the state. The source added that the suspect confessed that he brought the bombers from Sambisa forest in Borno State.
He said, “He is still being held and interrogated by the JTF and he is cooperating with the force by divulging vital information about their new strategy of using teenage girls for suicide bombings. I don’t know the exact number of the girls because one of my colleagues who participated in the operation said 13 while the other one said 16.”
Meanwhile, Spokesperson of the JTF in Kano, Captain Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed there was an operation in Dala local government area.
He saId, “There was an operation in Dala where one Ibrahim Ibrahim was arrested alongside some persons. Investigation is still on,” he said in a phone interview.
During the Sallah celebrations, female suicide bombers believed to be less than 20-years old, attacked five different locations in Kano, killing about 30 people in the process.
