Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) will host its annual flagship event, National Company of the Year Competition (NCOY) on Thursday, October 5, 2017. The event is a signature showcase for Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN) and the students who benefit from the impact of the JA Company Program®, which is a school-based entrepreneurship education curriculum for senior secondary school students. This annual celebration of success allows young people to demonstrate their business acumen and spirit of entrepreneurship in a competitive environment, which will engage business, education and policy leaders as well as the media.

At the event, winners from the Regional Company of the Year competitions from various regions of Nigeria present the results of their enterprise and learning experiences to a panel of independent judges who determine company performance against a set of established criteria. In order for a team to win this award, it is not sufficient just to run a financially successful JA Company or create an exciting product/service; team members must also demonstrate an understanding of how and why the company performed as it did, and balance the business achievements of the team as a whole with each member’s individual personal contribution. Judges look for evidence of innovation and application of new ideas in all aspects of company operations.

Nine student-companies will be competing this year for the 2017 National Company of the Year Competition.

This year’s competition will be judged by Mr. Adebola Williams, Co-Founder, Red Media; Mr. Danladi Verheijen, Co-founder and Managing Partner, Verod Capital; Mr. Gbenga Omolokun, Managing Director, Germaine Auto Center; Mr. Seyi Ajibola, Co-Founder/CEO of Wilson’s Juice Co. Ltd; Tunji Adegbesan, Founder/CEO, Gidi Mobile; Mrs. Hajara Adeola, Managing Director, Lotus Capital Limited. In addition to this esteemed panel of judges, this year’s keynote speaker is Mrs. Nkechi Obi, Executive Vice Chairman, Techno Oil.
