Just In: Benue governor, Ortom survives accident

Benue Governor Samuel Ortom on Tuesday escaped death when his convoy was involved in an accident, Punch reports.

A commercial Carina ll Toyota car rammed into the governor’s convoy on his way from Zaki Biam.

Ortom had gone to Zaki Biam to carry out an assessment of the attack by gunmen on International Yam Market.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Terver Akase, the the accident occurred between Abakwa and Adi in Buruku local government area at about 4:30 pm.

He said the Carina II veered off its lane and hit the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ bus which was part of the Governor’s convoy.

The state NUJ’s Chairman, Comrade Kris Atsaka, who was on the bus also sustained minor injuries, while an occupant of the Carina car sustained head injuries and was taken to hospital on the directive of the Governor.

No life was lost.
