Victims of last Friday’s multiple accident on the Benin-Ore road will be laid to rest today in a mass burial authorities of the University of Benin have announced.

About 60 corpses from the accident were placed at the mortuary in the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. UBTH in a statement said,

“The management is left with no option, because the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. It is not in the best interest of the hospital and its immediate environs to continue to keep such bodies.”

The Punch reports:

A source at the hospital said the victims would be buried at the Third Cemetery, located on Akugbe Street, off New Lagos Road, Benin.

The source further hinted that the burial would be preceded by a brief prayer session in the premises of UBTH by 8.00 am.

It was gathered that authorities of the Oredo Local Government Area approved a space for the mass burial at the Third Cemetery.
