Kidnapped Sierra Leone diplomat gains freedom

After four days in captivity, the Sierra Leone Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, who was kidnapped on his way to Kaduna state from Abuja, has finally gained his freedom from his kidnappers.

According to Don Awunah, the police spokesperson, Williams was released on Tuesday around 4pm following intense air and land activities within the area he was later found.

The police spokesperson, who failed to disclose if a ransom was paid for Williams’ release, noted that Williams is in good health and has since met with his family.

Williams was kidnapped last week while he was heading to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, outside Kaduna, for the passing out parade.

His abductors had reportedly asked for $40 million ransom. It is, however, unclear whether the ransom was paid or not.
