Lagos state vows to enforce anti-hawking law with multiple arrests

Despite the declaration of the Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode against hawking and the patronising of hawkers within the state since Friday, nobody has so far been arrested by law enforcement officers.

Across the state, even though there is a reduced presence, hawkers can still be seen trading their wares on the street just as they were before the governor issued the warning last week.

However, according to Public Affairs Officer of the task-force, Adebayo Taofiq, the government would take the enforcement of the law serious starting on Monday.

Taofiq, when contacted on the number of arrests made so far revealed that nobody has been arrested yet but that would change subsequently following the firm decision of the government.

He said, “Honestly, we are yet to make any arrest, but as from tomorrow (today), the task-force unit, to be led by its Chairman, Superintendent of Police, Olayinka Egbeyemi, with other security outfits and men of the Kick Against Indiscipline, will launch a total enforcement across the metropolis and anyone caught in the process shall be prosecuted accordingly.”

Well, be warned.
