[The Legislative Blog]: Dino Melaye did the “Ajeku Iya” song again and this time, it’s for Babachir Lawal

Here we were, thinking we had seen the last of Senator Dino Melaye’s absurdity, then he threw us into another state of shock when he decided to add one more level of pettiness, just in case we weren’t convinced the first time.

You’d think a man whose life was recently threatened by an assassination attempt by would be sober and would stay off this sort of childish and despicable acts.

So on Wednesday, the Secretary General of the Federation, Babachir Lawal finally got his own. He had been at the centre of a major embezzlement scandal and a measure of pressure had been on his boss, President Buhari to take action for months now. The Senator Shehu Sani-led ad-hoc committee investigated the mismanagement and diversion of IDP funds and a company allegedly owned by Lawal was found to have been awarded a grass-clearing contract worth about N200million.

At the time of the investigation, the Senate called on Lawal to resign but we remember him clearly saying the Senate was talking balderdash. Lawal disregarded the senate and humiliated them until Wednesday when he finally got a suspension letter. Frankly, no one saw it coming. Not even Lawal, as hours after the news of his suspension made rounds, he still insisted he wasn’t aware of his own suspension until we brought it to his notice.

[In case Babachir Lawal missed it, here’s the official notice of his suspension]

We digressed a little, but the point was to provide some background for this story. Maybe Babachir Lawal deserves every lashing the Senate sends his way right now but to do it the way Dino Melaye does it is what irks us.

This tweet is the written version of his now famous soundtrack “Ajeku Iya” and this time, he came for Babachir Lawal. So we’re guessing he didn’t get the chance to make another video where he’d stick out his tongue and eyeballs like a five-year old. But even five-year-olds are more sophisticated these days, so we apologize for the comparison.

How can we ever forget this photo and how do we explain the circumstances that surround it to the coming generation? Sure, Senator Dino Melaye must have seen the memes generated from his previous show of shame but because thick skin, he came back to do it again and we’re genuinely tired.

Someone needs to urgently put Dino Melaye on a leash, this situation has gone from hilarious to out-of-hand.
