[The Legislative Blog]: Senate invites Babachir Lawal for the third time but will he show up?

Here’s the letter inviting suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal to appear before the ad hoc committee on the mounting humanitarian crisis in the North East, for the third time.

We question the possibilities of him showing up before the senate because the SGF as we already know, has mastered the art of calling the senate’s bluff. And that’s even putting it lightly! Babachir Lawal has been rude to the Senate.

In March, Babachir Lawal went as far challenging his invitation in court. At the time though, he had the backing of the President who thought the senate did not give the SGF a fair hearing. We were confused as to what a fair hearing meant in a situation where the SGF’s company was allegedly awarded a N200million contract to clear grass in the North East region.

But things have taken a new turn, the SGF was suspended a few days ago by the President, his own ally. So we assume this will clip his wings. We assume his confidence has dropped a few notches and he will humbly make his way to the National Assembly building on Thursday.

On the other hand, he might just pretend he didn’t receive this invitation letter. Exactly the same way he claimed not to have any idea he had been suspended. So we’ll see what Thursday brings…won’t we?
