[The Legislative Blog]: What a shame! Dino Melaye is not going home afterall

It looks like it’s finally over and Senator Dino Melaye has the last laugh.

According to a tweet he shared hours ago, the Federal High Court Abuja has stopped his recall process stating that “status quo must be maintained”. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said on Tuesday that the recall process could only be discontinued by a legitimate court order or an injunction

We cannot yet confirm the veracity of Melaye‘s tweet but from the get-go, this entire process to pull him out of the Senate was doomed to fail, in more ways than one. Melaye had insisted all through the journey that Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello is the orchestrator of the plan to see him fall and the latter has not particularly gone all out to deny the accusations. Bello even praised the decision of the constituents, “The good people of Okun land and indeed West Senatorial District have learnt from a bitter mistake of not taming and curbing that social deviant and they have decided to take lawful steps in recalling him“.

On top of this, we’ve seen a division among the so-called constituents with some actively insisting that the recall exercise must be seen through till finish  while others who called themselves Concerned Kogi Registered Voters (CKRV) went as far as filing a suit to stop INEC from continuing the process.

Beyond these irregularities, we were all here when Senate President Bukola Saraki described the recall as “a waste of time” and his deputy, Ekweremadu called it “an exercise in futility”.

Who else is still surprised that all of this is over?
