The Carnival Calabar remains the greatest show ever in Africa, Mr. Liyel Imoke has claimed following the 10th anniversary of the event and the opening of the 2014 Adult Carnival Calabar in Cross River state.
The governor who was flanked by his wife, Obioma and the state’s PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ben Ayade, said the annual event has come to stay. According to him “This is 10 years of the Calabar Carnival, the greatest street party ever and the greatest show in Africa.”
The 2014 edition of the Carnival Calabar, with theme “Celebration Time” and which will be the last for the Imoke led administration featured the regular five participating carnival bands which includes Master blaster, Seagul, Passion 4, Bayside and Freedom band.
The chairman of the state’s Carnival Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah, also revealed that the government has put in place deliberate measures to ensure the sustenance of Carnival Calabar but with our lack of maintenance culture in Nigeria, we intend seeing how this will be put into practice.
The colorful event also attracted Israeli ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Uriel Palti and his wife among other dignitaries.
