M.I joking his way into public disrespect is why comedy is the domain of comedians

It is perfectly understandable if like many, your first reaction to the Twitter trend Sarz had been apprehension, at what the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad might have been up to in these uncertain times. You can breathe easy now, because while shots were indeed fired, they are not the kind the police unit is infamous for. The Sarz at the centre of this particular trend is record producer and musician, Osabuohien Osaretin, popularly known by the stage name Sarz.

The prolific hitmaker had set Twitter ablaze with just two fiery tweets, a response to a colleague’s major slip up in a week old IG live session, if we can call what many have called a tasteless joke, a slip-up.

@beatsbysarz tweeted:

This is the second time in a week that MI, popular both for his rap and a curious penchant for controversy, has trended on Twitter, in both instances not for a good reason.

The offence that enraged Sarz, who fans tout as being very calm, happened last week when in an IG live session with rapper Blaqbonez, MI recounted a story about how one time back in the days he took Sarz out clubbing and the then barely experienced DJ, got so excited that he ejaculated in his pants. He subsequently recanted it as just a long-running joke between buddies, and Sarz who was one of the viewers of that live session later joined Blaqonez and confirmed this. But that was just the beginning, One of Nigeria’s leading Instagram gossip blogs had picked up the story and ran it, and everything went bust.

The tweets by Sarz imply that he might have been working behind the scenes to have MI go live again and take his words back, and we may be wrong. MI however tweeted an unreserved apology to Sarz following producer’s explosion:

It is likely as a fan @elharsh pointed out, that Sarz went off because the story was picked up and shared on Instablog9ja:

It is also likely that there was an in-house drama, much like this in-house joke, that spilled over into the public space. Whatever the cause, these uncertain times have brought out the worst in some of the best of us, and hopefully as soon as we pull through things will return to normal. A banging album or two about these dark days will be the icing on the cake we all deserve as many of Sarz’s Twitter followers rightly mentioned.
