There was drama on Thursday at Adeniji Adele, Dolphin Estate, Phase 2, Lagos when a man who allegedly raped a 3-year-old girl was caught, stripped, and given the mob treatment.
The incident happened when the little girl somehow escaped from the man (names unknown) and ran into a nearby shop to seek refuge. The suspect reportedly followed her to the shop, owned by a woman, and demanded that the little girl follows him.
The shop owner decided to ascertain his relationship with the little girl and promptly raised an alarm when she noticed the man was uncomfortable with her line of questioning.
She started shouting, “Thief, thief!” thinking he was a kidnapper and several youth in the area descended on the man beating him up.
The man’s plea that he was not a kidnapper compelled the mob to further question the 3-year-old girl who claimed she was taken to a secluded 3-storey-building in the neighbourhood and raped.
Witnesses say she had blood dripping from her private parts down to her feet.
According to reports, the gathered mob were further enraged by the girls revelation and the alleged rapist was stripped and beaten to a pulp until policemen arrived to take him away.
There appears to be an increase in the spate of reported rape of minors in the country. This trend is extremely worrisome.
