Marafa finally gets some semblance of support in his battle against the Senate

15 members of the Federal House of Representatives on Sunday, February 28, asked their colleagues to stay clear of the brewing fiasco between Senator Marafa Kabiru and his colleagues in the Senate.

A group of lawmakers had on Wednesday, February 24 cautioned Marafa to desist from his one man fight against the senate in a statement signed by 11 members of the House.

Marafa has been under investigation by the Ethics committee of the 8th Assembly following alleged disparaging comments he made about the Senate president, Bukola Saraki during the course of an interview.

However, the 15 lawmakers called their colleagues to order, stating that the business of the senate is of no concern to the members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

The group noted that the Senate and the House of Reps were two independent Houses with different internal rules and therefore no arm was to meddle in the other’s issues as they could be resolved internally.

The 15 members are John Dyegh, Hon Lawal Yahaya-Gumau, Ahmad Babba-Kaita, Agunsoye Rotimi, Ali Madaki and Aminu Malle.

Others are- Nazir Zango-Daura, Muhammed Soba, Ismail Gadaka, Abdulrahman Shuaibu, Sunday Adepoju, Adekunle Akinlade, Musa Sarki-Adar, Ajibola Famurewa and Abdulmamud Gaiya.

“It must be made clear to the legislators who are mostly new members that the two Houses of the National Assembly are independent and separate arms.”

“By getting involved in the internal crisis of the Senate shows them to be interlopers” a part of the statement released by the legislators read.

The legislators also pointed out that Marafa being a Nigerian is entitled to the right to free speech as guaranteed under Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution and therefore should not be persecuted.
