Mayowa Ogundele: What the taxi driver called ‘Ashewo Syndrome’

by Mayowa Ogundele

Of all the incurable diseases… this one may never, ever, EVER find a cure. Probability of finding an end… is err, ZERO.

Technology, which has helped in solving the mysteries behind so many diseases has unfortunately also become the platform on which some dangerous ones thrive.

One of such is what the taxi driver called ‘Ashewo Syndrome’.

On Sunday, I was out with some friends for a long over-due Sunday treat and we had just stepped out of Dominoes, Ikeja GRA to hail a cab.

As we boarded this small unmarked vehicle, my friends (Dayo and Tobi) called my attention to a building across the street. A strip club.

The taxi driver (let’s call him Maxwell), was no stranger to what goes on in the building. The one Tobi insisted is a “gentleman’s club”.

I thought of something… some sane girls out there would see these babes, in their age group, and envy what they have… not knowing what they do to get it.

As Maxwell took us to another part of GRA, where we later got high on goat meat pepper soup, he started telling us about his female customers who were also ‘working’ at the club.

According to him, it cost N7,000 just to gain entrance…. but a ‘jolly ride’ with the girls cost around N50,000 or much more, he added.

The club even has a website where clients can make their order… chaiiii…. techy-no-lo-gy.

Apparently, he had ferried one of the girls to meet a client who didn’t want to pay company standard charge(s).

That’s how the conversation kicked off…

Maxwell also knows a couple of high class Lagos babes who work in banks during the day but transform into runz girls at night.

(I hear there are many of such ladies in Abuja too).

I don’t think these girls consider him to be worth their attention… or why else would they take off their day clothes in his car and change into night attire? All naked glory available for ‘lookery’

I was kind of shocked… but not so much. I can say I was more bewildered than shocked.

“Why on Earth would someone with a regular job choose ashewo-ism as PP”, I asked.

The answer: Ashewo Syndrome.

“It is in their blood”, Maxwell said.

My friends who had been adding fisi and jara to the story… gave a better explanation. GREED.

On a good night, some of these girls can make what their company pays them per  month!

The money is quick and they eventually get used to flaunting their original designer wears. They can’t stop. The hustle must go on.

I thought of something… some sane girls out there would see these babes, in their age group, and envy what they have… not knowing what they do to get it.

A girlfriend once told me that she preferred working on the Island because seeing young ladies riding big cars and “living the life” was a challenge for her to step up her game and “go get it”.

SMH.

My only advice is, success is what YOU call it. So, don’t run your race looking at someone else’s stopwatch.
