Catholic Archbishop breathes down Okorocha’s neck over bailout funds

Imo state government has acknowledged the fact that it has received its share of the bailout fund from the Federal Government.

In reaction, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace, Most Rev. Anthony J. V. Obinna, has challenged Governor Rochas Okorocha to publish the state’s financial statement.

Archbishop Obinna, wondered why it was taking the governor such a long time to publish the state account for public consumption.

This would be the second time the Catholic Archbishop would be making such a demand.

Back in August, Most Reverend Obinna, urged Okorocha to publish the state’s expenditure since his assumption of office.

He had said: “If there was money, why owe state workers and pensioners three, four months salaries? Make public the state’s account so that everybody would see.

The governor had reacted through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, who said: “With the archbishop’s call now, the state government is not only going to make the accounts public but will also publish it for all those willing to see or have them.”

“In other words, the state government most sincerely welcome the Archbishop’s call and will act accordingly without delay.”

But apparently, the Archbishop’s request hasn’t been granted.

Hence, he has now challenged journalists to invoke the Freedom of Information Act, and force the governor to release the document.
