Nigeria must not fail, Jonathan warns political class

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday warned Nigeria’s political class that history would not forgive them if the country fails.

Mr. Jonathan urged the political class to ask their supporters and followers across the country to focus on saving the nation’s democracy.

Senator representing Niger  state dies

Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta representing Niger East Senatorial District is dead, according to Leadership newspaper. He was 65.

Senator Kuta was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was born on 16 April, 1949 and was elected Senator for the Niger East constituency of Niger State, Nigeria, taking office on 29 May 2007. Read more….

Jonathan condoles with Gov. Aliyu over Kuta’s death

President Goodluck Jonathan has commiserated with Governor Babangida Aliyu and the people of Niger over the death of Senator Dahiru Kuta.

In a statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Jonathan also condoled with the Senate, the PDP and members of Kuta’s family.

Until his death on Thursday, Kuta was the senator representing Niger East Senatorial District in the senate on the platform of the PDP. Read more….

‘I’m troubled by Nigeria’s challenges’ – Abdulsalami Abubakar

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has said he is worried about the various challenges confronting Nigeria.

The former military leader spoke yesterday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, at the inauguration of the city’s renovated general hospital.

He said: “As someone who has watched our country triumph over a civil war and several other crises and had the privilege of supervising our country’s return to democracy, I am troubled by the challenges that currently confront our country. However, I have no doubt that our country will overcome these transient challenges and take its rightful place in the league of prosperous nations. Read more….

Gunmen attack police station in Kano

The peace of ancient town of Sumaila  56km south of Kano was shattered Wednesday night when gunmen attacked the town Divisional Police Division.

 Two police men were allegedly critically injured in an encounter that lasted 45 minutes before the attack was repelled .

Eyewitness account told Vanguard that at about 7.30pm the heavily armed hoodlums threw the sleepy council headquarters into panic with sporadic gunshot targeted at the police facility. Read more….
