Since last year, February 1, 2016, to be precise, Nigerian-British comedian and actress Andy Osho has been presenting Supershoppers and opening the eyes of the British public to what really they spend their money on. The consumer programme looks into the tricks of the retail trade to help savvy shoppers save money.

Andy who is very popular for her roles in a number of British TV dramas including  CasualtyDoctors,  Footballers’ Wives: Extra Time, Sea of Souls, Waking the Dead, EastEnders and Night and Day is one of the few female stand-up comedians in the UK.

Her comedy career has seen her perform at numerous comedy clubs and festivals including the Comedy Café, the Shoreditch Comedy Festival, Comedy Camp, Reading Festival winning her the 2007 Nivea Funny Women Award. “I knew I needed to stay on stage and stay working so I decided to give stand-up a go, even though I never thought I was that funny, and what happened happened,” said the 44-year-old whose first name is actually Yewande.

Her most memorable performances was on the Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Stand Up For The Week and Live At The Apollo. “I felt like a charlatan because I could see acting was a craft you had to acquire and I hadn’t done all the drama school stuff,” said the Plaistow-born actress when talking about her roots in acting to The Wharf. “I had it drummed into me by my parents that I should get a proper job. So even when I saw Idris Elba doing so well (she went to drama school with him) I carried on with my little job in post production.”

“I could feel I was never going to be 100% satisfied if I carried on with that job. So it was a case of now or never so that on my death bed I would know I gave it a try. It takes a while to get your feet under the table there but you only need a couple of people in the industry to be fans and that starts to get you traction.”
