Nigerian troops arrest 3 wanted bandits in Zamfara forests’ raids

The Nigerian Army Troops of 1 Division on Monday, defied the poor weather and carried out raid on camps of armed bandits in some forests within Zamfara State.

According to a statement by Army spokesperson, Col. Sani Usman, the troops recovered a number of items and arrested three wanted bandits.

“Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army involved in anti-cattle rustling and anti-banditry operations in Zamfara State on Monday 1st August 2016 despite poor weather and rugged terrain, carried out clearance operations on suspected armed bandits hideouts in some forests within Zamfara State.

“The troops carried out raids at Batara and Ajah forests in Birnin Magaji and Gusau Local Government Areas, Zamfara State. Although the armed bandits fled the camps, the troops destroyed the camps, recovered 3 motorcycles and 2 mobile telephone handsets.

“They further raided Rimawa forest in Gusau Local Government Area where they arrested 2 wanted armed bandits, Aliyu Abubakar and Umar Ibrahim. In Bini village forest, Maru Local Government Area, the troops also arrested a notorious and wanted armed bandits collaborator, Umar Dan Bilbili.”
