Chidi Odinkalu to President Buhari: “Talk to us first, not foreigners”

Chidi Odinkalu, wants a situation whereby, President Buhari would intimate Nigerians of his intentions for the nation, before taking it to the world.

The Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, finds it in bad taste that his plans for the country, is usually first-heard during his visits to foreign countries.

While speaking to legal experts during a conference- to brainstorm on the roles of ‘Integrity and Accountability in National Development’ in Abuja on Wednesday- he said the era of change which Buhari has launched requires that he carries Nigerians along first.

Odinkalu said Buhari’s trend of announcing his plans in foreign countries is inconsiderate of the needs of Nigerians, who elected him into office and deserve to know his plans for governance without having to read or hear about them in the foreign media.

“Change from where we are to where we want to get to involves a discussing process of leaders talking to Nigerians. The idea of always hearing things from our president when he is outside the country is offensive. We need a leadership that will trust our people, speak to our people like we are mature, speak to us like we own this country”.
