Pastor arrested for allegedly embezzling church funds (PICTURED)

Bruce Anthony Stark, a 62-year old pastor out of Stockton, California, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling over $100,000 from his church. Stark was the pastor at the Hilltop Apostolic Church and was arrested by the Clearlake Police Department for grand theft last week.

Stark is now in the county jail, with bail set at $40,000.  He eventually posted bail and was released from custody.

The case began when members of his church reported that their pastor was stealing money from them. He’d been hired in 2002 and served between 2002 and 2007. Police Det. Carl Stein says that an investigation led them to find out about cash transactions and illegal property purchases that occurred under Stark’s watch. He also says that the pastor used the funds for his personal expenses.

A total of 26 people were interviewed in the investigation and years of bank statements were reviewed. Eventually, the case was sent to the District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. The warrant for Stark’s arrest was issued in December 2012.
