Rain has been pouring for over 24 hours in Nigeria’s Centre of Excellence, and according to weather forecasts, there’s more to come. Lagosians are worried, and rightly so. Many were stuck in the rain yesterday, others trapped indoors, and sadly, some homes have been overtaken by rain.

Social networks have also been flooded – excuse the pun – and even a BlackBerry broadcast that carries the name of the Lagos State Commissioner for Enviroment, Mr Tunji Bello, was making it’s rounds yesterday. We pray the rain stops before it causes any more damage, but while it’s still dropping, YNaija brings updates from Twitter, BBM and Facebook.

Some Tips for the rainy season

1. Before u leave the house pack a few clothes esp shorts and swim suits.

Reason: You may end up swimming through some areas that cars, buses, bikes, tricycles can’t ply

2. Keep your hardcopy confidential documents in water proof bags.

Reason: In case you return home and find out the house is flooded, it will safe from damage.

3. Start having a good rapport with relatives in your hometown outside Lagos.

Reason: If Lagos becomes submerged we can have a place to run to for a while.
