Atiku, Adeosun, others optimistic ‘recession will soon be over’

Since the official declaration of the economic recession in Nigeria, divergent views have been aired about how to combat the challenges and possible ways out of the situation.

While economic experts have made known workable solutions, other people in the government are optimistic that the recession will soon be in the past.

Here are some of the top government personalities who have spread the message of hope;

  1. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo: Nigeria’s numero uno optimist has repeatedly reassured Nigerians that the current recession will soon be over. According to VP Osinbajo, the recession occurred partly because of the pipeline vandalization in the Niger Delta region. He says the activities of the vandals led to the loss of 60 percent of gas, hence the loss of revenue.
  2. Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun: While addressing a news conference on Friday, Adeosun said the federal government has a strategic plan to ensure “that the recession is as short as possible, we do not want a prolonged recession. From what we are looking at, we do not think that it will be a prolonged recession.” She says the strategic plan is a long term one that would reposition the economy.
  3. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar: In a Sallah message by his media office, the former VP asked Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of the current economic situation. He assured that though it might take a while, the recession will pass away and give way to economic prosperity.
  4. President Muhammadu Buhari: During his visit to Edo state last week, President Buhari gave his own dose of assurance about the situation. “I assure you we are going to get out of this our economic doldrums and we are almost out of our insecurity problems and we are going to make Nigeria great again.”
