Former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, disclosed that he signed the same sex marriage prohibition bill into law because he respected the will of Nigerians and the rule of law.
The former President said this while speaking on Democracy and Equality at the Bloomberg studios in London.
The speech, which was titled “Civis Nigerianus Sum” – I am a citizen of Nigeria, also called for a universal bill of right for Nigerians.
While justifying his reason for signing the discriminating bill into law, Jonathan also called for a revisiting of the bill at the “appropriate time,” saying that “Nigerians and other citizens of the world to be treated equally and without discrimination.”
