Parents in Sokoto might soon be facing charges if they don’t put their kids in school

Failing to put one’s children in school will be a crime in Sokoto state if a bill proposed by the government becomes law.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal said in a statement on Monday that the purpose of the bill is to boost school enrollment and provide quality education to every child.

As part of measures to implement the proposed policy, the government intends to build and equip 240 primary and tertiary healthcare centres in the three senatorial zones of the state, the governor said.

Tambuwal added that the policy becomes necessary because of the high number of parents who deliberately frustrate government efforts to educate children.

He stated that the state government has already made adequate arrangement to cater for the educational needs of its citizens. He added that anyone caught flouting the new regulation will not be spared.
