TECHnically: Mark Essien needs government to get out of the way (LISTEN)

Mark Essien is fundamentally bullish about internet start-ups, because irrespective of current short-term challenges, there is “no scenario under which the number of people online will reduce”.

He should know. In building Hotels.ng into a successful internet business over the past 4 years, he has had a front row seat to the growth of that space in Nigeria. Still, he concedes that even though internet entrepreneurs are more visible than others, people think building one is easy, when it is in fact hard.

Mark touches on many other issues in this edition, like his role in deepening the talent pool in the technology ecosystem in Nigeria, his thoughts on Konga’s numbers, and what role the government should have in the internet space.
