The official photographer to President Goodluck Jonathan was on Monday attacked by unidentified gunmen.

Callistus Ewelike, who is also a photojournalist for the News Agency of Nigeria, was shot in front of his residence in the Nyanya area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 11pm as Mr. Ewekile arrived home after performing an official assignment.

Leadership reports:

Ewekile was returning from where he covered the commissioning of a power project by the President in Shape, Abuja.

Residents in the area told our correspondent that it would be the second time Ewelike would be attacked by gunmen despite the presence of two police stations, the Police Station in Area C and the MOPOL Quarter Guard 21 in Area D.

Although the police divisional headquarters in Nyanya is in Area F, just a trekkable distance from his house, a group of gunmen had some weeks back, visited Ewelike’s residence where they carted away with some of his working tools, including his camera and a laptop and a few other personal items.

But on Monday night, the gunmen who shot Ewelike were said to have arrived the scene on a motorbike, carried out their mission and reportedly sped off as the gunshot attracted residents of the area.

While no personal item was stolen from him this time around, Ewelike was rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja by his neighbours and is currently receiving medical attention.
