I am far more educationally qualified than Atiku – Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari has accused the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, of not possessing the statutory educational qualification to contest the February 23, 2019 election.
In his counter-accusation on Wednesday, Buhari dared Atiku to produce his “educational certificates, indicating the schools attended by him, with dates,” before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. Buhari said he was “head and shoulder above” Atiku in terms of educational qualifications, training and courses attended, both within and outside Nigeria.
End killings in the country – Arewa to Govt.
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) rose yesterday from its National Executive Council meeting with a call on the Federal Government to take the battle to the criminals responsible for killings across the country.
It also urged the government to take measures that will restore peace in the states. The NEC meeting, presided over by the ACF Vice Chairman, Senator Abubakar Girei, who stood in for the Chairman, Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande, described the governors’ attitude towards the development of education is unfortunate.
19 suspects, two vessels held as Nigerians, U.S., navies join forces
The Nigerian Navy (NN) yesterday confirmed the arrest of 19 suspects and two vessels within the Western waters during a joint operation codenamed “Junction Rain”, which it undertook with the United States (U.S.) Navy.
The vessels were arrested for illegal possession of firearms and suspected crude oil theft by the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) CENTENARY and a Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) boat which were among the nine platforms and two maritime patrol helicopters deployed for the seven-day operation.
Reps receive 2019 budget report
The House of Representatives committee on appropriations has laid the report of 2019 budget before the whole house.
The report was laid on Wednesday by the chairman of the house committee on appropriations, Mustapha Dawaki. He, however, did not give details of the report.
The Senate Committee on Appropriation had earlier, on Wednesday, laid its own report on the 2019 Appropriation Bill.
FG declares Friday, Monday public holiday for Easter
The Nigerian government has declared Friday and Monday as a public holiday for this year’s Easter celebration. This was contained in a press statement by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau. The minister enjoined all Christians to emulate the exemplary attributes of Jesus Christ amongst which are tolerance, love and peaceful co-existence.
