[The Injustice Blog] Just like it happened in Queen’s College…

I would like to report the Management of Queen’s College, Yaba, Lagos. As I write, the Principal and Vice-Principals have, over a month now, deliberately suppressed several complaints of sexual harassment which my daughter and some other students have consistently reported to their class teacher, their Year Head, the Head of Department of the accused teacher and the Principal’s Office.

My daughter is in JSS 2, second term at Queen’s College. During their visiting day in first term, she complained to me that there is an integrated science teacher, Mr Oshifala, who has been harassing her and some other students.

The inference above was the introduction of a weighty petition that threw Queens College Yaba, Lagos, into turmoil in March 2016. What started as a mere allegation snowballed into a big crisis but how well it was handled is left for posterity to judge.

Despite the veracity of the allegations, the management of Queens College downplayed it as that from someone not comfortable with the growth of their college and, the allegations were treated with kid gloves.

While this was going on, the school principal that should have seen to the unravelling of the mystery behind the letter was suddenly transferred to another institution without answering questions and, the issue nearly died a natural death if not for the insistence of the old girls of the school.

On the long run, the accused was also transferred to Kings College without paying a price for his deeds, however, the letter helped to expose the decay in the institution as it relates to the poor state of infrastructure in the school which later claimed the lives of three students of the school as a result of water-borne diseases.

In Federal Government Girls college Langtang, Plateau, the security guard literally turned the girls to ladies of easy virtue to satisfy the libido of sex mongers around the community for a paltry sum of money. As usual, the management feigned ignorance of such despicable acts, the same way Queens College principal feigned ignorance of such happenings in her school.

The unfortunate happenings in Queens College and now FGGC Langtang has shown the quality of people we place in positions of responsibility in the society.
