[The Music Blog]: Looks like we may be getting that Asa and Wizkid collaboration after all

It’s been over two years since Wizkid made the infamous tweet above, but what most people remember about the tweet were reactions from Asa’s religious followers who deemed the Starboy unworthy of being on the same track with one of modern Nigerian music’s foremost exports.

Though Asa has been silent about the shout out over the years, a rare Asa interview with ace media veteran, Funmi Iyanda surfaced on the internet and one amonsgt the topics touched was the recognition by Wizkid. Speaking on her fan’s reaction to Wizkid’s declaration, Asa said “I felt bad, I felt ‘oh my God’ I hope he doesn’t feel bad’, I hope he doesn’t think I incited it or I wouldn’t want to work with him”

The singer went ahead to suggest an Asa and Wizkid collaboration may be more likely than fans initially presumed by saying, “I’ll really like to work with him. I think he’s interesting, I think it’ll be a nice collaboration if we do it. I’ll love to see Wizkid in another context but being himself, we’ll make something really nice!”

At the moment Asa and Wizkid are perhaps two of the most defining acts in this era for popular Nigerian music, one on the alternative spectrum and the other on the pop fringe. They are also both great performers and song composers who shine best when working with acoustics. While fan reactions from two years ago may have gleaned public disinterest in hearing Wizkid on a track with Asa, it’s almost unfathomable that such a collaboration will drop today and not break the internet.
