Today March 8th is International Women’s Day and it is another opportunity to celebrate women all around the world.

African women are known to be resilient, strong and courageous and so today we have decided to celebrate 14 of our favourite ladies in no particular order.

Joke Silva is a woman extraodinaire. She is an acting legend and has stayed relevant in the industry despite decades in the business.

2, Genevieve Nnaji:

Genevieve Nnaji is much more than just a pretty face (and body), she is one woman who just can not be held down.

3, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili

Dr. Ezekwesili is not only a brilliant economist, she’s also a woman who knows that to spare the rod is to spoil the child. Don’t understand what we mean? Just ask members of the All Progressives Congress.

4, Lupita Nyong’o:

Miss Nyong’o is now the Hollywood it-girl and she is a full-blooded African. the Kenyan beauty recently brought home an Oscar for her performance in the movie “12 years a slave” and we are loving all the attention she’s getting.

5, Onyeka Onwenu

Onyeka Onwenu is one of the forerunners of the Nigerian music industry and we are proud that she is a woman.

6, Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru:

Tolu ‘Toolz’ Oniru can be credited with taking the term “media personality” to a whole new level. Miss Oniru is taking the world by storm and she’s doing it all in an amazingly feminine package.

7, Tiwa Savage:

Tiwa Savage aka Mrs. Balogun is a singer/songwriter per excellence. She is so talented that she counts American R&B songstress, Brandy as one of her fans.

8, Rita Dominic:

The superb acting skills of screen diva, Rita Dominic have never been in doubt. Her recent work “The Meeting” which she produced has now also set her apart as a producer to contend with.

9, Kate Henshaw:

Kate Henshaw has become one of the country’s most valuable actresses with endorsements, a position as a reality show judge and now her own book on fitness. Go Kate!

10, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde:

“Omosexy” has become an international darling, having bagged a spot on Time’s list of the World’s most influential people last year.

11, She’s the richest black woman in the world. Enough said.

12, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie:

Chimamanda Adichie is an award winning novelist. Her voice was recently featured on superstar musician, Beyonce’s recent eponymous album.

13, Oluchi Orlandi:

Oluchi Orlandi (nee Onweagba) has created very big shoes for models of Nigerian heritage to fit in. Ms. Orlandi has graced catwalks all around the globe and she obviously has no intentions of slowing down.

14, Agbani Darego:

Miss Darego left millions of mouths agape when she was named the first African Miss World in 2001. She recently launched her own line of denim.
